Holiday Card Workshop 2013, Day 5

I've learned a lot of new things in this workshop, and the last lessons were no exception.  Our "homework assignment" was to make two holiday cards, one more masculine, and one more feminine.

I started with the feminine card.  I liked the use of plaid, but didn't have a stencil, so used some plaid paper I had.  I die cut part of a circle from the side, and popped it up on a white card base.  I stamped a sentiment in the opening, and added a little red bling below it.  (Note, while it doesn't look like it in the photos, they are three red rhinestones, all matching in color, two small ones and a larger one--the flash made them look weird lol)  I finished the card off with a sparkly red and gold ribbon.

 I then decided to make an identical card, only making it more masculine looking. I used a kraft card base, and left off the red bling under the sentiment.  I still added a bow, but made it from red and brown twine.  I finished off the card by using a white gel pen around the opening.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 4 card

One of today's ideas was stamping a design, then embossing over it with the sentiment.  I really liked the idea and decided to try something like that.

I used paper from DCWV Christmas Combo stack from a couple of years ago.  The tree is stamped 5 times in various distress ink colors, then over-stamped with Merriest Wishes in Momento Tuxedo Black. Both the tree and the sentiment are Hero Arts clear stamps--sentiment from "Very Merry Christmas" and tree from "Sending Holiday Cheer". Rhinestones and silver cord were from my stash.

Holiday Card Workshop--Weekend Bonus card

I really thought that the ideas the teens came up with were really good, and thought I'd make one with the raised image as Tanner had suggested.  I really like how it came out in person.  In the photo you can't really see the pop the raised flower gives the card!

And after seeing it posted, it looked kind of blah, so I added a large and 2 small pearls under the sentiment on the tag, and another large pearl in the center of the popped up flower accent.  It looks much better now!

I wanted to try the diagonal design, and this is what I came up with.  I really got a lot of good ideas from this lesson!

Holiday Card Workshop, Day 3 Card 2

The card class instructions suggested using your own supplies and use their techniques to make a card uniquely your own.  That would be what I did.

Not having the die they used, I decided to just use a large stamped sentiment.  I added a small border of dark blue to imitate part of the die they used.  Also, not having the patience to make a plaid paper like Laura did, I substituted a piece of designer paper that I liked.

So, here is my take on Laura's card.  It is definitely different than hers, but I think I get the general flavor of hers.

Holiday Card Workshop, Day 3

I liked the concept of the card designed by Shari Carroll, but didn't have the supplies she used.  So I improvised a little.

Instead of using a die to round off the bottom of the overlay, I used a plate, pencil and scissors.  I also didn't have a dotted line stamp, so substituted another strip of designer paper.  I did have a dotted embossing folder, but decided to use it on only half the card front, leaving the other half of the front smooth for my stamp.  I popped the overlay, and also popped the stars, which doesn't really show in the photo, but I think it adds a little pizazz to the card in real life!

 

The designer paper is from DCWV Winter Wonder Stack, the green star paper and white background card stock is from Michael's, I think,  and the card base was Pure Luxury In the Navy from GinaK Designs.  

The stamp isn't marked, so I'm not sure where it's from, but it's stamped with Momento Paris Dusk.  The star punch is from Marvy Uchida.  The embossing folder is Dotted Swiss by Cuttlebug. 

The inside sentiment is from Stampabilities, and is also stamped with Momento Paris Dusk. 

Holiday Card Workshop Day 2, continued

This card uses a piece of acetate to give the illusion of suspension for my stars.  A little hard to get them lined up just right, but I think it turned out okay for the first time.

I added a couple more little stars to the inside card, to add a little dimension to the card, and my sentiment is below the window.  I haven't quite decided what sentiment I want to stamp on the front bottom, but that is where one will end up.

Holiday Card Workshop 2013, Day 2

Day 2 of the Workshop, and there were several ideas I loved.  I'm going to be making at least a couple of cards from the ideas.

Thought the inlaid idea was cool, so decided to try it.  Note for next time--don't use overly detailed die, no matter how cute you think it is--don't use shimmery paper that can't be colored over with Copics--don't glue die cuts to fingers (although I do this almost every time, no matter how careful I try to be).

So, here's my take on the idea.  I didn't do all the bits and pieces, just colored the background cardstock behind the main die cut piece.  I actually like how it finally turned out, but probably won't be making this card again!

The paper I used was a shimmery blue, which shows up silvery in the photo (sorry about the photo, but of the 5 photos I took, this was the best).

I used a silver paint pen to color the die cut (after first trying coloring with Copics, then a silver shimmer mist, which explains why the  die cut looks a little frazzled), and on the background card stock

I used a green Copic before sticking down the shimmery blue and then inlaid the (finally) silver tree.  The die was included in the Simply Cards and Papercrafts magazine I just purchased.

Holiday Card Workshop Day 1, Part 2

Had a little time this afternoon and made another card from the lessons from the online class.  This one uses washi tape to define the sentiment.  Inside, a gift card envelope also uses the washi tape from the front to pull it all together.

I used a Darice embossing folder, and the stamps were from Hero Arts.  They were stamped with Black Tuxedo ink from Momento.

The house was colored with Copics, and a little Frosted Lace Stickles was added to the snow to give it sparkle.   It was attached with Popdots to lift it off the front of the card.

I really liked how this card turned out.  It looks so much better in person, the photo just doesn't do it justice!

Holiday Card Workshop 2013, Day 1

Started my online card class yesterday, and it is great!  I've taken other classes from them, and they all teach me so much, this one is no exception.

They featured several cards to give us ideas for our own, and I decided to use the Z-Fold idea they presented.  I couldn't find a sentiment to go across for a banner, but I used a border on the bottom to pull the whole thing together.  I'll probably be making another with the banner idea if I ever find my missing set of stamps! lol  I guess that means it's time to de-clutter my craft room.

Here are a couple of photos of the card I made.

 Colored the snowman with Copic markers.

It doesn't show up well in the photos, but there is some glitter and sparkle on the background paper.  Where the lines intersect, and the snow flakes in the border.

Another Fall Note Card

Still playing with my new stamp.  I used my Kaleidacolor Stamp Pads in Tomato Vine, using a brayer on the ink pad and transferring the ink to my stamp.  I blended the edges with my Distress Inks in Dried Marigold and Vintage Photo.

I added some red rhinestones for a little bling, and matted the stamp with a yellow paper.
I like how this turned out!  Sorry about the glare in the photo, had to use my flash.

Fall Note Card

Finally getting a chance to play with my new background stamps.  This one is from Stampendous, I believe it is called Autumn Words.  I love the words on it!
                                                         

I used Distress inks in Scattered Straw and Vintage Photo for shading and stamping, a burgundy ribbon to accent the stamping, and a brown card stock card base, with an off white card stock for the liner and the stamping.  I left the inside unstamped, thinking it could be used for a Fall Birthday, Thanksgiving, or even thinking of you occasion.
